05 Dec 10 - This week's activities are:
Thu 09 Dec 10: Fencing at Gwernyfed High School 6.15pm - 7.30pm.
(Dai is still unable to give lifts.)
The Awards Night has been postponed until the New Year (so that Dai can attend - as he's presenting the awards it makes sense!).
The Xmas Party (16 Dec 10) will still be going ahead (save a mince pie for Dai, please!).

NOTE: Dai will NOT be available for lifts on Thursday evening.
02 Dec 10 - Dai is currently unavailable, so Chris is manning the fort ("normal service has been resumed"!). Things may not go according to plan during the next week or so, so please don't get too excited when details of events are passed on to you with little notice. Thank you!
14 Nov 10 - The London Trip is still going ahead - details are being finalised, and a letter will be sent out very soon.
11 Nov 10 - Tonight's meeting will be at the Llangorse Rope Centre. Why? Because we're going climbing! Meet at the Rope Centre for 7.15pm, finish at approx 9.30pm. 06 Oct 10 - Don't forget that it's the Brecknock Challenge this coming weekend! Arrive at Bryn Bolgoed Friday between 5pm & 7pm, finish Sunday approx 3pm (but not before all kit has been returned to stores!). The Information Booklet & A Permission to Camp Form can be downloaded from the "Proformas & Flyers" page.
30 Sep 10 - A new Facebook group for our unit has been created to help keep in touch with members & pass on news. Have you asked to join it yet? If not, why not? Click here & ask to join! (Problems seeing the group? You may need to log in to facebook before clicking on the link.)
20 Sep 10 - The November trip to Snowdonia is cancelled (due to a lack of interest) - a trip may be arranged sometime next year.
03 Sep 10 - If you want to go to Snowdonia in November please fill in & return your form, not forgetting to include your deposit. If you have lost your letter (or you never received one) you can download one from the "Proformas & Flyers" page.
03 Sep 10 - A new page has been added to the website. "The Wall" is a place for you to post your messages, comments etc. To 'write' on the wall use the 'Contact Us' page, quoting 'the wall' - contents are moderated!
13 Aug 10 - The Calendar of Events has been updated to show activies for Sep - Dec 10. The Calendar can be viewed by clicking here.
03 Aug 10 - The photos from this year's Summer Camp in the Lake District are now available on the'Photos of 2010 Events' page.
03 Aug 10 - The Caption Contest is closed, and the winner has been decided! In 2nd place was Dai (even though he was the judge!) with "The Dai's Jokes Appreciation Society AGM". The winner was (drumroll, please!) Adam M (or his Dad!), with "Be Prepared...for a very long wait!". The prize will be awarded when we start up again in the Autumn. Well done!
15 Jul 10 - This Thursday we are at Bryn Bolgoed Farm, planning next term's activities, preparing for the Summer Camp, discussing next year's Summer Camp (do we want to go abroad?), and (best of all!) WATER FIGHT!!! Bring a towel, a change of clothes, and your biggest baddest water pistol!
13 Jul 10 - COMPETITION TIME! "Right time, right place, wrong date!". Dai attended the Area AGM 24 hours before it was due to start. To commemorate this 'achievement' we are running a competition - there's a prize for the best caption for the photo below showing Dai at the 'AGM' - submit your entry via the'Contact Us' page, Dai's decision is final (& probably biased!).
08 Jul 10 - The canoeing planned for this evening has been cancelled, due to the DofE expeditions - work for the expeditions starts on Thursday evening, and Chris & I have not yet mastered the art of being in two places at the same time! (If anyone can pass on the secret of time travel we'd be grateful!)
13 Jun 10 - Directions for the rafting this coming Thursday (17 Jun 10) can be found on this page. 07 Jun 10 - Don't forget to let Dai know which of the June activities you would like to take part in (see Chris' letter for the details). If you don't tell Dai then there won't be a place booked for you!
03 May 10 - The District presented a cheque for £1114.50 to the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team - the money was raised from several sponsored events held throughout the first part of the year. The Explorers cycled & rowed 'up Pen y Fan' 89 times in one hour for their contribution.
19 Mar 10 - Paperwork for the DofE Training Weekend at Biblins 26-29 Mar 10 is now available to download from here.
11 Mar 10 - The photos have been uploaded! Photos for this year's events to date are now on the website.
10 Mar 10 - The webmeister has been very busy lately, so has not had time to update the site with photos etc. However, updates will appear shortly...
30 Jan 10 - A sponsorship form for our 'Row/Cycle up Pen y Fan' is ready to be downloaded from the 'Proformas & Flyers' page. This event is now likely to take place on 20 or 21 Feb 10.
30 Jan 10 - Order forms for our unit shirts & hoodies have been uploaded to the 'Proformas & Flyers' page. Make sure you use the correct form!

22 Dec 09 - A fantastic day's bagpacking at Morrisons raised £1458.30 for our unit's funds - Well done to all who took part, & a big thank you to all who donated money!

08 Nov 09 - The unit represented the District at Brecon's Remembrance Service.

24 Apr 09 - Four of our Explorers helped with the St George's Day Service in Brecon (2 with the collection and 2 with the procession).
07 Apr 09 - A new feature has been added to the site - "Bernard's Travels".
07 Apr 09 - The Programme of Events for Apr - Aug 09 has been uploaded to the site.
03-06 Apr 09 - Easter Camp will be at Biblins.
07 Feb 09 - The Brecon Explorers Swim Team finished a credible second in the Swim Gala (out of two teams). Well done to the whole team! (picture below)

30 Dec 08 - Order forms for the unit polo shirt will be given out in the next 2 weeks. Forms must be completed & returned by the end of January 09.
20 Dec 08 - A BIG thank you to the Explorers & parents who helped raise much-needed funds by bag-packing for the day at Morrisons.
20 Nov 08 - Don't forget! Archery tonight at Bryn Bolgoed Farm 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
05 Nov 08 - There are changes to the programme! Please make a note of the new times/activities!
16 Oct 08 - The Night Hike is from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Meet at Brecon Leisure Centre, dressed appropriately & carrying a torch. Do not be late - the hike starts at 7.30pm!

10 Jul 08 - Our two latest members were officially welcomed into the Unit this evening at an Investiture Ceremony. Croeso! Welcome!
19 Jun 08 - This week's meeting will be at the Prom. For those who don't wish to kayak we have arranged an alternative (non-water) activity.
14 Jun 08 - The Explorers acted as marshals for the Brecon Triathlon. We were busier than this photo would suggest!
29 May 08 - This is the cut-off date for the next payment for Smuggler 08. We need the remainder of the Camp Fee (for those who have already paid the £20 deposit, this will be £60).
23-25 May 08 - Centenary Camp. Leaving Scout Hut at 5.30pm, in uniform. You need to sort out your own transport to/from Ystradgynlais (maps & directions will be available). The camp finishes at approx 3.00pm on Sunday. Bring wellies & spare clothing as we will be caving on Friday evening. Do not forget your Permission to Camp form! (You can download a blank one from the Proformas & Flyers page).
22 May 08 - Presentation by Lion Colin Duncan (President) and members of the Brecon Lions Club to the Explorers, to help towards the purchase of our hike tents - Diolch yn fawr! Thank you!
18 May 08 - Chris & Dai have passed their GNAS Archery Leader Course, so archery will soon be appearing on the programme of events!
15 May 08 - Tonight's meeting is taking place at the Scout Hut, normal timings, in uniform.
08 May 08 - The orienteering will now take place at the Scout Hut - normal start & finish times. Non-uniform, dressed for outdoors.
05 May 08 - Well done to the canoeists who completed their DofE Silver Award Practice Expedition!
25 Apr 08 - Don't forget the St George's Day Service, in Llangorse, starting at 6.30pm.

20 Mar 08 - We will be spending the evening with the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team. Meet at their base, dressed for the outdoors & carrying a torch. Timings 7.30pm - 9.30pm.
14/15 Mar 08 - The Young Leaders' training weekend was considered a great success by the adults, as all YLs were in bed before midnight!
28 Feb 08 - Big G will be leading a Self Defence class - wear old comfortable clothing.
24 Feb 08 - Subs are overdue! Please pay by this Thursday (28 Feb 08).
21 Feb 08 - Roger Williams MP will be visiting the unit, as a follow-up to our visit to the Houses of Parliament.
31 Jan 08 - Night Hike 19.30hrs - 21.30hrs. Meet at Pontwilym playing field (GR SO042296).
24 Jan 08 - Our newest member was invested tonight. Welcome to the unit, Dylan!

21 Dec 07 - Happy Christmas! Well done to all our Explorers, for all their achievements in the past year. Let's hope next year is as successful as 2007!

18 Oct 07 - This evening will be spent preparing the DofE Presentations.
04 Oct 07 - This evening will now involve the Young Leader Training & I.T. Badge Work that was scheduled for 18 Oct 07. We will let you know in due course what we will now be doing on 18 Oct 07.
13th Sep 07 - The Unit welcomed its newest member, Josh Griffiths, who moved on from the 1st Brecon Scouts. (He had the biggest welcome so far - he's obviously very popular!)
11th Sep 07 - Dai was presented with his Wood Badge by the DC, Maureen Lowe. When asked by Chris if this now meant that he knew what he was doing, Dai replied "Half past three".
Summer Camp - After a successful camp Chris & I would like to thank all that took part (Explorers & adults) & all that helped whether by giving up ther time or by lending equipment / expertise etc. And a special well done to the following for their awards:

Now that Summer Camp is over the Leaders can have a well-earned rest for a few weeks before we start all over again!
19 July 2007 - This Thursday we are meeting at Bryn Bolgoed Farm from 7pm till 9pm, to pack for the Summer Camp. Bring with you any items that you wouldn't normally expect to carry in your rucksack (such as wetsuits, body boards, any bulky items). Do NOT bring any other personal kit, as you will only be taking it back home with you at 9pm!
14 - 15 July 2007 - The DofE Expedition was a great success. Well done to all that took part, & I hope you've dried out now. As usual, photos will be posted on this site (when I get the chance).
26 June 2007 - STOP PRESS!!! Timings for this Thursday 28th June at Mynydd Illtud have been amended to '7pm until 9.30pm'.
22 June 2007 - Next Thursday (28th June) we are meeting at Mynydd Illtud from 7pm till 9pm, for a wide game evening (non-uniform). Not sure how to get there? From the roundabout at the Golf Course end of Brecon, take the turning after the A470 to Merthyr (but the one before the A40 to Sennybridge!). Head along this road for approx 4 km. After crossing a cattle grid take the right fork, and park at the foot of the hill with a trig point (if you cross another cattle grid you've gone too far!).

25 - 29 May 2007 - The Centenary Camp was a great success! The CDs containing all the photos taken during the Photo Competiton have been produced and will be sent out shortly. If you want an extra CD then please get in touch, using the 'Contact Us' page (extra copies will require a small donation towards the cost of postage & packaging).
24 May 2007 - Don't forget to turn up at Glanusk as early as possible to help set up the Centenary Camp.
